haillons, les mains li�es derri�re le dos. Le juge n'�tait autre que
Marie-Casimire, �lev�e � cet emploi par la confiance du peuple, qui se
r�servait le droit d'�lection bien entendu:
--As-tu donc encore viol� la loi? demanda-t-elle s�v�rement.
Le petit homme se tut; en le regardant de plus pr�s, je reconnus Popiel
le communiste.
L'une des paysannes, une belle fille, prit la parole:
--Au lieu de travailler, il s'enivre, et il effraye les femmes par ses
propos.
--Assez! fit Marie-Casimire. Il sera conduit � la fronti�re et repouss�
de notre alliance; s'il ose jamais revenir, on le forcera au travail
comme un esclave. Seul, l'homme laborieux et capable de produire m�rite
