Tarascon...�
Marc-Aur�le le barbier ne croyait pas dire si juste.
Sans Tarascon et sans la gloire, c'�tait sur qu'il ne pourrait pas
vivre.
Pauvre bon ma�tre! Pauvre Tartarin!... Tout de m�me, cette
co�ncidence... une �clipse le jour de sa mort!
Et quel dr�le de peuple que le n�tre! Je parie bien qu'en ville la
nouvelle leur a fait de la peine � tous, mais ils ont affect� de
prendre la chose tr�s � la l�g�re.
Tout �a, parce que depuis l'affaire de Port-Tarascon, qui les a
montr�s si emball�s, si exag�r�s, les Tarasconnais veulent
para�tre tr�s rassis, tr�s ma�tres d'eux-m�mes, corrig�s pour
toujours.
Eh bien, la v�rit�, c'est que nous ne sommes pas corrig�s le moins
du monde; seulement, au lieu de mentir en del� nous mentons en
de��.
Nous ne disons plus:
�Hier aux ar�nes on �tait plus de cinquante mille, au moins.�
Mais:
�Aux ar�nes, hier, si l'on �tait une demi-douzaine, c'est tout le
bout du monde.�
