V�h�n aikaa juttelivat he kesken�ns� ja meniv�t sitten k�sitysten
saliin, jossa Eliasta uutena perheenj�senen� syd�mmellisesti otettiin
vastaan.

Erkin pappilassa vallitsi nyt onni, rakkaus ja rauha, ja iso-�idin ilo
oli oikein t�ydellinen, kun pikku Manne, jonka Erkki oli vienyt Elias
sed�lle onnea toivottamaan, v�h�n suutaan nirpist�en kurkotti k�si�ns�
mummollensa, sanoen: "Mum -- mummo".

"Viel� yksi joululahja lis��!" huudahti iso-�iti, "lapsi osaa sanoa
mummo".

My�hemp��n illalla sanoi Teinin leski: "Erkki, kiitt�k��mme Herraa
kaikesta hyv�st�, jota H�n meille on t�n�kin p�iv�n� suonut."

Erkki otti kirjan, josta h�n luki rukouksen ja sitten veisasivat he
kaikin yhdess� jouluvirren. Sen j�lkeen t�m� onnellinen perhe sanoi
y�hyv�iset toisillensa.

Y�ll�, kun kaikki jo nukkuivat ja kuu laski kalpean valonsa Erkin
pappilan akkunoille ja t�hdet taivaalla kirkkaina tuikkivat, valvoi
leski viel�. H�n tunsi itsens� yksin�iseksi: nuot lapset, jotka h�nelle
olivat kaikki t�ss� maailmassa, joita h�n niin suurella huolella oli
kasvattanut, heid�n syd�mmess��n oli nyt vieras h�nelt� anastanut
ensimm�isen sijan... Tuota ajatellessaan kuvautui h�nen silmiens� eteen
lapsi, joka kurkotti h�nelle pienet k�t�sens�, huutaen: "Mummo!" Kaunis
hymyily levisi h�nen kasvoillensa ja yksin�isyyden tunne haihtui
syd�mmest�.
