_Dans cette �tude passionnelle, nous avons voulu aussi et
principalement �voquer une Ville, la Ville comme un personnage
essentiel, associ� aux �tats d'�me, qui conseille, dissuade,
d�termine � agir._
_Ainsi, dans la r�alit�, cette Bruges, qu'il nous a plu d'�lire,
appara�t presque humaine... Un ascendant s'�tablit d'elle sur ceux
qui y s�journent._
_Elle les fa�onne selon ses sites et ses cloches._
_Voil� ce que nous avons souhait� de sugg�rer: la Ville
orientant une action; ses paysages urbains, non plus seulement
comme des toiles de fond, comme des th�mes descriptifs un peu
arbitrairement choisis, mais li�s � l'�v�nement m�me du livre._
